Why We Support Teen & Young Driver Safety Programs

Teen drivers are among the highest-risk groups on the road. In Nevada — and nationwide — motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of injury and death for drivers ages 16–20. Inexperience, distracted driving, speeding, and overconfidence significantly increase crash risk during the first few years behind the wheel.

Studies consistently show:

  • Teen drivers are nearly 3x more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than drivers age 20 and older
  • The first 6–12 months of driving carry the highest crash risk
  • Night driving and multiple teen passengers dramatically increase accident likelihood
  • Defensive driving education reduces crash rates and improves reaction time in emergency situations
  • According to the AAA Foundation for traffic safety, teen crashes and fatalities rise between the period of Memorial Day and Labor Day, known as the “100 deadliest days of summer.”

At Howard Injury Law, we see firsthand how devastating preventable crashes can be for young drivers and their families. That’s why HIL Helps actively promotes teen driving education, defensive training programs, and community safety initiatives — because prevention is just as important as protection.

Teen & Young Driver Training Programs

Driver’s Edge

A free hands-on defensive driving program hosted at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway that teaches young drivers critical skills like skid control, ABS braking, and hazard awareness in a controlled environment. Donate to this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and public charity. The more you can donate means more events, safer drivers and more lives saved!

Nevada DMV-Approved Driver Safety Schools
State-approved defensive driving programs that provide instruction on safe driving habits for beginning drivers. Some providers advertise starting the course without payment and charging only once you finish to get the certificate — but that’s specific to them, not the DMV.

Las Vegas Road Safety & Awareness

Child and Senior Safety Training

Senior Driving Safety
Programs
Driver safety programs improve older driver safety by addressing cognitive abilities and skills, however, they can also improve their safety by ensuring their cars are properly adjusted for them.

Child Passenger Safety

Car seats and booster seats provide protection for infants and children in a crash, yet car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. It’s important to choose the right seat and use it correctly every time your child is in the car.

It costs absolutely nothing
to see if you have a case!

Safe Driving & Road Awareness

Many crashes happen because drivers fail to anticipate hazards, follow too closely, or overlook warning signs on the road. Our Safe Driving & Road Awareness blog explores practical tips and local resources that help Las Vegas drivers stay safer behind the wheel, including:

LVMPD Safety Resources

Official guidance from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on local roadway hazards, safe driving practices, and community safety initiatives.

Clark County FixIt App

Communicate to Clark County and post questions to the city commissioner. FixIt is a community reporting tool that allows residents to report potholes, broken traffic signals, debris, and other roadway hazards that can contribute to preventable accidents. Get it on Apple Store or Google Play.

Mental Health Management

Take the Pledge. Don’t Text and Drive

Promising to never text, email, or use phone apps while behind the wheel, as distracted driving can cause thousands of fatal car crashes each year.

Road Rage Prevention or Mental Health Classes
Local classes are available through community organizations, nonprofits, and online platforms focusing on stress reduction, emotional regulation, and crisis intervention. Some of these free anger management or emotional regulation programs aim to reduce aggressive driving and help prevent road rage incidents.

How To Support Victims After a Serious Crash

What You Need to Know After an Accident

An accident can feel overwhelming. Below are the most important steps and questions people have in the hours and days following a crash.

Immediate Safety & Documentation

After a crash, move to safety, call police, seek medical care, and document the scene thoroughly.

Seek medical attention — Some injuries appear hours or days later. Early evaluation protects both your health and your claim

Reports and Insurance Guidance

How to obtain a police report in Las Vegas

Knowing where and how to request your report is critical for insurance claims.

Reporting a Hit-and-Run, Unlicensed, or Uninsured Driver

Prompt reporting for a hit-and-run or an unlicensed or uninsured driver can protect your right to compensation.

Insurance & Property Damage Guidance

Should you speak to the insurance company? We’ll help you understand liability, UM/UIM, gap insurance, and MedPay. Knowing what coverage applies can make a significant difference in recovery.

Financial Recovery & Settlement Process

How medical bills and liens are paid after settlement

Understanding how compensation is distributed after medical bills and liens reduces stress and confusion.
